Somersby Art Gallery Exhibition

Visit Somersby Art Gallery and discover a thoughtfully curated collection of original artworks by some of the Central Coast’s most talented artists. Founded by landscape artist Kim Wilson, the gallery showcases an ever-changing exhibition of contemporary paintings, ceramics and mixed media, celebrating the creativity and diversity of local Australian artists. Set amongst the peaceful surrounds of Somersby, the gallery offers a welcoming space to slow down, connect with art and meet the artists behind the work. Alongside Kim Wilson’s atmospheric landscape paintings inspired by the Hawkesbury River and Cowan Creek, visitors can discover original works by Annette Kelsey, Gay Pickering, Trudi Bean, Gretchen Miller, Kim Cardiff, Birgit Floehrmann, Anna-Karina Hermkens, Carolyn Purtle, Julie-Anne Rogers, Sue McRoberts and Robyn Pedley. Working across painting, ceramics and mixed media, each artist brings a unique perspective, making every visit to the gallery a new experience. The Hawkesbury Art Prize is a biennial prize awarded to an Australian artist for a painting, drawing or work on paper with the theme of Contemporary Australian Identity.
Open to Australian artists, the prize is awarded for the most outstanding work created in the past 12 months. The theme invites artists to respond to the concept of contemporary identity in Australian life. The prize excludes photography, textiles, embroidery, and sculpture. The art prize is judged by a panel made up of three notable figures in the Australian art world. The Hawkesbury Art Prize is a significant Australian award.
